South Africa gets big upset from Netherlands in ICC T20 World Cup 2022 do-or-die match to qualify for the semi-final

The fortieth match of the ongoing t20 world played between South Africa and Netherlands. Both countries played their last match of the ICC T20 world cup 2022 of Super 12 stage in Adelaide Oval Cricket Ground Australia in which Proteas must need to win the game in terms to qualify for the semi-final but the Netherlands upset them with a defeat and end their campaign for the world cup. It was a do-or-die match for South Africa if they had won the game, they will qualify for the world cup semi-final but now their world campaign has come to an end as they were defeated by the Netherlands.

It was like a Quarterfinal for South Africa. The Netherlands won by 13 runs from proteas but no one was expecting this result as South Africa is one of the best team in the world cup and the Netherlands played a qualifier round to qualify for super 12 but it’s a game and you cannot take the opposition lightly. South Africa won the toss and invite the Netherlands to bat.

Netherlands Batting

The Netherlands gets a good start with a bat and put 48/0 runs in the powerplay. Max O’Dowd scored 13 runs on 12 balls and Stephan Myburgh 34 runs on 24 balls in the powerplay. The Netherlands lost their first wicket on 58 runs on the 3rd delivery of the 9th over. The Netherlands scored 70/1 after 10 overs and they scored 88/3 in their final 10 overs. They finished 158/4 in 20 overs and Colin Ackermann was the top scorer from the Netherlands side with 41 runs. He scored 41 runs on 26 deliveries with a strike rate of 157.69 and also hit 3 fours and 2 sixes that help the Netherlands to put a good total on the board.

South Africa Batting

When proteas came to chase 159 runs in 120 balls their batsman was struggling against holland bowlers and they lost their first wicket to Quinten de Kock wicket-keeper batter on just 21 runs in the 3rd over he caught behind the stumps by Scott Edwards. South Africa lost their both openers in the powerplay and finishes the powerplay 39/2. de Kock goes back to the pavilion after scoring 13 runs on 13 balls and captain Bavuma gets bowled after scoring 20 runs on 20 balls.

Proteas were 68/3 after 10 overs and scored 145/8 runs in their 20 overs and finished their world cup campaign with an upset defeat and make a room for Pakistan and Bangladesh for the semi-final and India become the 3rd team who qualified for the semi-final, New Zealand and England already in the semi-final.

Player of the Match

Colin Ackermann won the player of the match award for his brilliant performance with the bat and bowl. He scored 41 runs and faced just 26 deliveries and the strike rate was 157.69 also hit 3 fours and 2 sixes and remain not out at the end of the innings. He bowls valuable 3 overs in his 3 overs spell he did not get any wickets but gave just 16 runs with 5.33 economy and put the opposition under pressure.
